Fixed Partial Denture

fixed partial dent multiple teeth | Geoffrey W. Sheen, DDS, MS

A fixed partial denture, also known as a bridge, is a dental restoration that fills the space where one or more teeth are missing. Bridges can also help distribute bite forces, and they can prevent teeth from drifting out of position.

Our in-house dental laboratory, Mustard Seed Dental Studio, custom makes bridges by creating and attaching three components: pontic(s) (artificial teeth) and two crowns. The pontics fill the space left by the missing teeth and are adhered to the adjacent crowns. The fixed bridge is then attached to the prepared abutment teeth (as shown in the picture).

A fixed partial denture can:

  • Fill space of missing teeth
  • Maintain facial shape
  • Prevent remaining teeth from drifting out of position
  • Restore chewing and speaking ability
